STC Underground Fundraising Campaign ~ Community Garage Sale
Donation Form
Dear Friends,
Deep in the heart of one of St. Charles’s treasured landmarks lies a hidden gem. Known as STC Underground, the lower level of the Baker Community Center at 101 South Second Street is a place where teens can hang out with friends, do homework, access computers, play video games or watch TV — all the kinds of things teens normally do after school and on weekends.
With its classic leather sofa and chairs to its impressive bank of computer terminals and gaming equipment, the Underground is every teenager’s dream environment. A microwave oven and beverage machines are available, while entertainment systems serve up the latest movie releases. There’s a stage where budding musicians can "strut their stuff" and pool tables where friends can "shoot some stick." Tables and chairs provide a quiet place to do homework, aided by direct computer access to resources via the internet. Both drug- and alcohol-free, the Underground offers a safe, friendly and comfortable environment for students from grades 6 through 12.
Open 40 hours each week, from Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3 pm to 9 pm, Fridays from 6 pm to 10 pm and Saturdays from 1 pm to 10 pm, the teen center is professionally supervised by Darby Beasley, Teen Program and Center Director, and Sean Warren, Teen Recreation Supervisor. Their mission is to provide structure and attention, helping teens build interpersonal skills, enhance their self-esteem and discover new interests.
The staff have personal, educational and professional experience qualifying them to work with youth, but what separates them from their peers is the level of compassion and involvement both bring to their work. Spend any time talking to them about the Underground and the students they see there every day, and their enthusiasm and caring shine through, from their concern for the kids’ well-being to their pride in the teens’ accomplishments.
The annual attendance records clearly indicate that STC Underground Teen Center is enjoyed by teens of all ages. The community’s ongoing support will help the Park District continue to provide facilities and programs for local teens. Please consider making a tax deductible donation in support of STC Underground. For more information, call 630-584-1055 ext. 25.
Sincerely,

Community Garage Sale
What’s the best part of having a garage sale? Getting money for getting rid of your unwanted odds-and-ends, of course! What’s the worst part? Well, besides lugging all that stuff up from the basement and down from the attic, most folks would say running around town tacking up garage sale signs and putting ads in the paper is an equally troublesome task.
Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who would handle all those advertising and promotion tasks for you? Someone who would run an ad in all the local papers, furnish you with bright, colorful signs — even list your garage sale on a guide for all to see? Well, that’s just what the STC Underground Teen Center plans to do during its annual "Community Garage Sale".
Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase additional computer and educational materials and upgrade sound equipment used during teen concerts featuring local bands.
Homeowners manage and operate the garage sale just like they would under normal circumstances: they set their own prices for their merchandise and retain 100% of the profits generated from those sales.
All participants will receive:
- An address listing, along with a description of for sale items, in the Community Garage Sale Tour Guide.
- Advertising in local newspapers and community newsletters.
- A yard sign and balloon for display at your residence. Additional signs and balloons are available for a small fee.
Open to all Park District Residents and anyone else with a St. Charles address.
For more information on how to participate in the garage sale, contact Darby Beasley at 630-513-4321.
